Independence an advantage for RF’s AI business
Sales are soaring at Klasse, the Rattlerow-owned AI business. The addition of DanAvl lines to the comprehensive range of Rattlerow genotypes standing at stud is attracting considerable interest and AI sales are on the increase from new and existing customers.
Producers have welcomed the ‘one-stop-shop’ approach Klasse is taking with AI supply and feedback to the studs clearly demonstrates they like the range of genetics on offer and the simplicity of sourcing products from one supplier,” said Ian Gilles, Klasse AI and Genetics Manager.
The decision to expand the studs and widen the selection of superior genetics available to UK pig producers has proved worthwhile. Volume semen sales have increased considerably since the Klasse brand was launched in the UK in July 2016, and most of the new business is from new customers.
Duroc and Hampshire genetics are proving particularly popular with terminal boar choices, while Rattlerow’s own maternal lines continue to dominate semen sales for GP and replacement gilt production.
“The commercial sector appears to be looking for improved meat quality traits in its slaughter progeny, alongside fast, efficient growth. The variety of elite boars we now have at our studs fits our customers’ demands and we’re sure that the way Klasse is delivering AI products and services is also benefitting selection decisions and AI logistics for all pig breeders,” said Mr Gillies.

Klasse has more than 300 working boars at stud and is capable of producing in excess of 10,000 doses of semen a week. The genetics currently available include a complete portfolio of Rattlerow’s high-performance lines and a selection of superior SPF sires from DanAvl Yorkshire, Landrace and Duroc lines.
The AI centre can also provide customers with bespoke selection advice for their individual breeding strategies via Rattlerow’s Genmatch service.
