Rattlerow operates two distinctive breeding programmes to produce its sire and dam line products. The Dam Line Line index focuses on the maternal traits including numbers born alive, litter weight, feed intake, longevity with less weighting given to growth and carcass attributes. Rattlerow has developed the GENmatch programme to enable specialised breeders to produce the full range of dam line products on their own farm.
The Sire Line index puts greater emphasis on lean tissue growth rate, lean tissue feed conversion, lean % and meat quality.
The Rattlerow international group nucleus uses family data compiled over 10 years from nucleus and multiplication farms across Europe and Asia in order to maximise genetic progress in traits of low heritability such as litter size. The Farms are linked genetically using AI so that the BLUP programme can calculate more accurate breeding values.
